Our Favorite Wines: James Suckling Great Wines of the World Miami 2024
Wine Club Miami was in full force at this year's Great Wines of the World, where over 250 producers showcased top-notch quality. These are our top picks!
During the two-day mega tasting event, we explored the world in a glass and jumped from table to table (or country to country). Hungary? Check. Bordeaux? Next question. Brunello bangers? Most definitely. Check our great picks below:
Domaine de Chevalier Blanc Pessac Leognan 2019
“This white Bordeaux was one of my top picks. It was fresh with a great balance of acid, mineral and fruit. It was my first time having this, and will seek this out in the future,” said our founder Jeff Tenen.
Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné Crozes Hermitage Mule Blanche 2019
“This was very notable with slight oak flavors and a long finish,” said co-president Matt Hege.
Erdevik Estate Omnibus Lector 2021
“There were so many wonderful wines,” said member David Yarus. “I’d like to draw a little attention to something very unexpected that was a lovely palate cleanser for me. Hit just right with high quality and quite surprising flavor profile: a Serbian wine! Definitely off the beaten path but quite fun + different.”
Château Pavie Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2010
According to member Jesus Cabarcos, the Pavie was a serious standout, and we’re not surprised with this incredible vintage, legendary name and $500+ price tag…
“The Shafer One Point Five 2019 was singing at only 5 years old with lovely Cabernet fruit, while the Hillside Select needed much more time to develop. The Achaval Ferrer Bella Vista 2019 balanced power, purity and elegance for a super approachable Malbec, while the Catena Zapata White Bones 2021’s were one of the most unique wines on the floor and gone too soon with addicting notes of mint, herbs and subtle white flower. The ‘09 Jaboulet La Chapelle was a crowd favorite for a reason: it was stellar, along with the Condrieu that coated the palate perfectly. The Clerc Milon 2015 and D’Armailhac 2018 showed up to perform for this 6,000+ audience, with classic Bordeaux flavor of dark red berries, subtle vanilla and a long finish…smooth criminal! I’ve never had the single vineyard Brunello from Valdicava and the 2019 was booming with power. Lastly the Ulysses Oakville Cabernet 2018 from winemaker Tod Mostero and vigneron Christian Mouiex was the best way to end an amazing two days of tasting,” said WCM co-president Shawn Zylberberg.
